What do I need to introduce my students to using PIC control systems?

There are a number of very successful systems currently available.  T4, as part of the Technology Professional Development programme introduced teachers to the use of  a t4 PIC training board which is available from Revolution Education Education Ltd. Unit 2 Bath Business Park, Foxcote Ave, Bath, BA2 8SF, UK, Tel: +44 (0)1761 430044 Fax: +44 (0)1761 430045 Email: info@rev-ed.co.uk. Based on ‘LOGICATOR for PIC and PICAXE’ control software, the board offers many variations in control and is suitable for beginners while also offering challenges to more experienced. The board can be viewed at:  http://www.rev-ed.co.uk/docs/c16.pdf

Is the ‘Student PIC project board’ still available?

Unfortunately the ‘Student PIC project board’ is no longer available. However the GENIE range of PIC control boards now provide a broad range of PIC PCB’s which students can populate to meet specific requirements, see http://www.genieonline.com/.

Any of the following two GENIE PCB kits in particular can be used in place of the ‘Student PIC project board’ :

  • GENIE E18 Activity board, code PCB118
  • GENIE E18 Project board,   code PCB218

What control software do I require for the GENIE PIC boards?

‘GENIE Design Studio’ control software can be downloaded free from http://www.genieonline.com/. Circuit Wizard also offers ‘GENIE Design Studio’ as part of the software suite.
